Shalom Santa Barbara

“Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.” Jeremiah 29:7

***Currently our Shalom Community meets at 6am Wednesdays at the Village Aparmtnents at 524 West Canon Perdido – you are welcome to join us!  Coffee and Snacks provided***

Jesus asks us to seek the “shalom” of Santa Barbara.  Shalom can be defined as:

“Completeness, wholeness, health, peace, welfare, safety soundness, tranquility, prosperity, perfectness, fullness, rest, harmony, the absence of agitation or discord.”

Our vision for 2010-2011 is to be involved with seeing this peace movement happen in our city.  It is the natural outflow of God’s people – as is described in both the New and the Old Testament.

This Summer a leadership team is meeting at The Village Apartments in Santa Barbara to consider Shalom and how we might partner with God to see it happen in our city.  We are meeting at 6am in the Community Center.  Our team consists primarily of Westmont students who are interning this summer, and other adults who want to be a support to this team, but you are more than welcome to join us.  We will have coffee!

We will be studying the gospels and going through Living Toward a Vision by Walter Brueggemann.

What we love about Shalom is that it is good for everyone – all benefit from it being put into practice.  It will tie into all our initiatives and help us to create new ones!

It is like re-finding the year of Jubilee – creating a city of equity.

“The more we take, the less we become, the fortune of one man leaves less for some” – World on Fire by Sarah McLachlan
